Who we are

We’re a small, well-funded team based in the US with a HQ in Berkeley, California. Our current team is Jonathan, Ted, Omar, and Michael. Our backers include Lightspeed, Haystack, and a couple dozen more great firms & angels.

Our mission is to let people regain control and agency over their attention. Our plan is simple:

  1. Build and distribute incredibly useful and aligned software to a lot of people
  2. Grow that into a fantastic business
  3. Look back on it all as the best time of our lives

Who we’re looking for

To date, we’ve found that people who are successful at Avec have the following traits:

  • They have very high self-efficacy
  • They have a meaningful creative practice, whether at work or elsewhere
  • They are unusually attentive to details
  • They’re kind

What has made us successful so far isn’t necessarily what will make us successful in the future, however! As such, we look forward to new team members shaping and adding to this list.

Product engineering

We’re looking for very talented engineering generalists who have a demonstrated track record of solving complex technical problems and participating in core product strategy decisions.

Our bar for technical talent is exceptionally high, as our goal is to serve millions of users with at most a dozen engineers. We expect outstanding engineering skills coupled with a deep interest in the latest AI tools. We do not care about your education.

For engineers, we prefer it if folks are in the Bay Area, but would consider remote hires for the right person. We’re only able to consider folks who are based and authorized to work in the US.

Growth and brand

We think of building a great product as deeply intertwined with distributing it. We’re looking to hire someone who would work with our founder to refine and deliver our brand voice, conceive and execute on growth initiatives, and help with new media production. We are not looking to reproduce established playbooks; we’d like to build our own.

For this role, we value three traits: loving the product, having almost unreasonable self-efficacy, and having distinguishing taste. We have no preconceived notions of relevant qualifications beyond great written and oral communication skills. Specialized creative skills are welcome but not required.

This role requires presence in the Bay Area and comes with the expectation that you’ll spend at least 2 days a week at our office in Berkeley. We’re only able to consider folks who are based and authorized to work in the US.
